Beginner's Guitar lesson 10More Reading and PlayingWell, Let's go for the fifth reading and playing exercise. Again, you'll find it quite easy and nice. So, just go and enjoy it!.Remember that so we can understand each other, we have stated some name conventions. Your left hand fingers will be refered as:
Index finger = 1 And your right hand fingers will be refered as:
Thumb finer = p Now, let's go to Exercise 4!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
E||---------|---------|---------|---------|----------|---------|---------|---||
Duration Legend
W - whole
Tablature Legend
L - tied note
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All notes played on the 3rd, and 2nd strings will be plucked with an upward stroke of your index and middle fingers, simultaneously.
Start fretting the 3rd string with finger 1 and the 2nd string with finger 2. Then slide finger 2 to the 3rd fret, and fret the 3rd string on the 4th fret. After plucking both strings, slide both fingers two frets, at the same time, so the 3rd string will now be fretted on the 6th fret and the 2nd string on the 5th fret.
For the rest of the exercise, always slide left hand fingers, as to fret strings with your fingers 3 and 4 whenever the exerecise calls for fretting both strings on the same fret.
It's most important that you don't lift your left hand finger or fingers every time you can slide them over the strings.
As in all previous exercises, focus on complete durations for all notes. Donīt interrupt the sounds, either by lifting the left hand fingers before the note duration is complete, or by touching the strings with the right hand fingers, anticipating the following stroke.
Also remember what you learned in previous lessons about the way your right hand fingers will pluck strings, and the necessary strength to press strings with your left hand so you get a clean sound.
Keep trying until you get:
Now, come on! Go try it!
See you in the next lesson, coming soon.
